Title : L2/L3 Mobility Support for All IP Networks
Time : 2/17, 16:00~18:00
Speaker : Professor. Chongkwon Kim, Seoul National University
Prof. Chong-kwon Kim graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1987 with a Ph.D in Computer Science. He joined Bellcore (now, Telcordia) in 1987 and worked to design high speed network devices and protocol. Leaving Bellcore in 1991, he has been with the Seoul National University as a faculty in the Dept. of Computer Engineering. Prof. Kim wrote more than 100 technical papers in the areas of wireless networks, high-speed protocols and performance evaluations.

Abstract : Future mobile networks are expected to adopt All IP technologies and we need to develop new mobility management schmes that replace conventional HLR/VLR based mobility management technologies. Mobility management in the Internet has been the active research and standardization topic during last 10 years. An examplanary protocol is MIP. However, MIP and many variations of MIP such as HMIP and FMIP were designed for portability and cannot support seamless mobility. In this tutoral, we will discuss many protocols that have been proposed for mobility support in the Internet. We will emphasize several recent protocols such as Proxy MIP, L2 support schemes and network-aided mobility management schemes.

Title : 3G Access Network Evolution toward IMT_Advanced systems
Time : 2/17, 16:00~18:00
Speaker : Dr. Pyeong-jung Song, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI)
The presenter, Pyeong-jung Song, is a principal engineer for ETRI in Korea. He has a variety of hands-on experience in wired and wireless communications fields for 25 years. He is specialized in system engineering including system design and radio protocols of mobile communications in areas of IS-95, PCS, Wireless Local Loop, CDMA2000 and W-CDMA systems as a project leader for 10 years. He has extensive experience of standardization activities in TTA SC7 (IMT-2000) radio protocol study group (chair), ITU SG XI/ WP6/ SWP3 (CCS7 ISUP, Rapporteur), and ITU-T SGXI/ WP3 (IMT-2000 LAC/MAC (Editor). For last three years, he has been in charge of the development of "Open architecture based base station" in 4G mobile communication systems with support of Korean Government. Recently, he has participated into 3GPP LTE standardization activity for IMT_Advanced systems. He has special interest in the fields of 3GPP radio access network, vertical mobility and IMT_Advanced systems.

Abstract : Currently, the big events such that the candidate frequency spectrum for IMT-Advanced was announced, and 3GPP, 3GPP2, and mobile WiMAX groups have almost completed their draft standards for the evolved wireless telecommunication systems, lead us to have great interest in IMT-Advanced technology. In this talk, we introduce technical requirements, network functional architecture, and key issues of IMT-Advanced systems. Additionally, we discuss network architecture and core technologies including call control scheme, mobility management, MBMS, and Femto Cell technologies of 3GPP LTE (Long-Term Evolution) systems, a strong candidate of IMT-Advanced systems.

Title : IPTV Standardization and Technical Issues
Time : 2/17, 16:00~18:00
Speaker : Professor. Junkyun Choi, Information and Communications University ICU)
Jun Kyun Choi received the B.Sc. (Eng.) from Seoul National University in electronics engineering, Seoul, Korea in 1982, and M.Sc (Eng.) and Ph.D degree in 1985 and 1988, respectively, in electronics engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science andTechnology (KAIST). From June 1986 until December 1997, he was with the Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI). In January 1998, he joined the Information and Communications University (ICU), Daejeon, Korea as Professor. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, the executive member of The Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea (IEEK), Editor Board of Member of Korea Information Processing Society (KIPS), Life member of Korea Institute of Communication Science (KICS). His research interestsare concerned with broadband network architecture and technologies particular emphasis on performance and protocol problems. Secondary interests include the international standard activities on broadband network architecture and protocol with mobility support. Dr. Choi was an active member of ITU-T Study Group 13 as a Rapporteur or Editor from January 1993 on the ATM, MPLS, and NGN issues. He had also submitted more than 30 drafts on IETF during last few years.

Abstract : This tutorial explain the standardization activities of IPTV Focus Group under the ITU-T. First of all, it introduce the IPTV overview and market demand. It include some technical details for IPTV services: service requirements, architecture, QoS/QoE, security, control protocol, STB and middleware. It reviews the main results of the IPTV Focus Group activities. Also, the outstanding technical issues for evolution of future IPTV services will be raised.
