Title : Pyeongchang ICT Olympics 2018 - Keynote Speech
Time : July 1 (Wed) 2015
Speaker : Director General, Oh Sang-jin, PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympics
Oh Sang-jin works as Director General of Technology Bureau, PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympics & Paralympic Winter Games(POCOG). Recently he joined POCOG to prepare ICT S/W, H/W and infrastructure for 2018 winter Olympic Games in Pyeong-Chang in Korea. He has usually worked as a public employee in Korean government for ICT promotion role since 1993. He has built his career and experience in Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, the President¡¯s Office, Korea Communications Commission and Ministry of Information and Communications. He studied electrical engineering in Hanyang University in Seoul (89 ~ ¡¯93), and received MBA from University of Oregon, USA (¡¯03 ~¡¯05).

Abstract : The PyeongChang Olympic Games will be the opportunity and challenge for Korea to boast a sustainable regional development in various sectors such as culture, tourism and transportation, and successfully host the event on the back of the state-of-the-art ICT. The games are opportunities to promote Korea¡¯s outstanding ICT and related services to countries overseas, and to make the event the world¡¯s best ICT Olympics. Korean government and POCOG will draw up detailed plans which will include 5G network service, Ultra HD and IoT services. The ICT sector has been playing a crucial role in recent Olympic Games, compared with the past when technology only focused on measuring game results and providing records. Now, the ICT lies at the heart of the Olympics success. POCOG plans to let the world know more about Korea¡¯s superior ICT technologies and services, and generate growth momentum for new industries.

Title : Realizing Diversified Services over Convergent Software-Defined Infrastructure - Keynote Speech
Time : July 1 (Wed) 2015
Speaker : Prof. JongWon Kim, PhD. – GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology, Gwangju, Korea
Dr. JongWon Kim received the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Seoul National University (Seoul, Korea), in 1987, 1989 and 1994, respectively, all in Control and Instrumentation Engineering. In 1994-2001, he was a faculty member of KongJu National University (KongJu, Korea) and University of Southern California (Los Angeles, USA). From Sept. 2001, he joined Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology (Gwangju, Korea), where he is leading Networked Computing Systems Lab. (renamed from Networked Media Lab.) under the slogan of ¡°Dynamic & resource-aware composition of media-centric services employing programmable/virtualized resources.¡± Since April 2008, he is also serving as the director of GIST SCENT (Super Computing CENTer). His recent research interests cover topics such as Software-Defined Networking/Cloud Computing for Future Internet and smart services with hyper-convergent SmartX Boxes. Around these topics, he has co-authored more than 300 technical publications in journals and conferences. Finally, he has/had been involved with several global R&E activities, including the HDTV WG chair of APAN (Asia-Pacific Advance Network), the WS chair of APAN-NRW (Network Research Workshop), the testbed WG Chair of FIF (Future Internet Forum in Korea), and the steering group member of AsiaFI.

Abstract : In this talk, we will review the exploding paradigm shift toward Software-Defined Infrastructure that leverages the harmonized orchestration of SDN (Software-Defined Networking), NFV (Network Functions Virtualization), and Cloud Computing technologies. The resulting Software-Defined Infrastructure tied with FastData real-time analytics capability can complete the emerging foundation for Industrial Internet of Things (I2oT). Thus, the agile and economic realizations of diversified services could be enabled over fully-automated Software-Defined Infrastructure. Next, we will introduce the virtualized playground (i.e., testbed) concept, where the DevOps (Developers and Operators) engineers can experience the imminent innovation by orchestrating the Mobile+Cloud service realization with hyper-convergent (i.e., computing/networking/storage combined) SmartX Boxes. By starting from the building-block concepts such as ¡®Box¡¯, ¡®Functions¡¯, and ¡®Inter-Connect¡¯, we will show the automated abstractions for ¡®Provisioning¡¯, ¡®Orchestration¡¯, ¡®Visibility¡¯, and ¡®Intelligence¡¯ can complete the experiment lifecycle of creating, testing, and launching human-defined services.
